Capello was a great manager! I knew his stats were good, but If the ones on wikipedia are accurate, he only lost 6/42 games during his tenure as England boss.

I don't think Psycho is ready for the big job. I'm not sure he ever will be.

I didn't like the appointment of FC. It smacked to me of those late-career payday jobs footballers took in the Premiership to earn some extra money. he had nothing to prove, barely spoke the language and was unlikely to work again at club level with the sort of club he'd been used to.

Harold Redknapp does look the successor to me.

I loved the appointment of El Tel and was (seriously) a little surprised that we didn't win in '96.

I loved the appointment of Bobby Robson, but went off him and then later decided he was a genius...

I also loved the appointment of Keegan, but that wasn't really going to work.

There is a lot of Venables in Redknapp. No need for a coach at this level, no need for too much passing on of tactical nous. the manager must be a leader (he is) a proven winner in cup competitions (he is) and be capable of building a team that is always more than the sum of its parts (he is).

I doubt Spurs will let him go, but the FA have (a lot) more money than sense.

Might he (seriously) take the job as a stand-in, leaving it to an assistant until the domestic season finishes then picking a squad and taking it to the tournament. He's be wonderful.

But... what if they (FA) crawled to him and said "Just name your conditions Harry, we love you more than life!" and what if he said:

"I'll do it for the summer, but I want the boy Terry as captain. No discussion."

All highly unlikely, but i think the FA would sell their soul to have him in charge for the Championship.

Nonetheless, without all the other bollocks, i think HR will take the team over there as manager, even if it's only until the start of next season back at Spurs.

Yeah but Redknapp might put his underpants on back to front. Or ask his accountant to pick the goalkeeper.

He's too thick to be an international manager.

I would have never thought I'd ever discuss anything football! BUT I think is more of a case of being pushed? Him going back to Italy and mouthing off the FA about their decision to suspend Terry captaincy. Publicly bringing into question (and disagreeing) the action of the FA sealed his fate.

Exactly - one of the most successful England managers, but he just couldn't beat the culture of entitlement and lack of commitment that pervades English football at the national level. And he was, in the end, still distrusted by the dinosaurs who run English football for being too too foreign. However, there is currently no really credible English candidate for this job. Mourinho for England?

Capello showed no strategy. He stumbled through selection like a man who had no idea what his best team was. The losses and draws were all at the sharp end of competition when it really mattered.
Before the last world cup he was distraught that Gareth Barry wasn't fit to start FFS, which is a sign of desperation.

What if, just a what if for now, Redknapp is appointed and we go on to be knocked out in the group stages of the Euros. Will we then accept that the players currently thought to be the best we've got are actually crap, over-paid, arrogant wastes of oxygen? Take a team that has finished in the top 4 of the Euros or WC and see how many England players (on current international form) would get an automatic starting place?

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
No one emerges with much credit from the whole affair.
Agreed I think everyone made mistakes trying to sort the situation out. My opinion is that Terry should have done what a good captain would have done and put the team first He could have stood down till he cleared his name and said he would support the stand in captain from the ranks. Which would have avoided this whole thing and maybe even have gained him some respect, but "JT" didnt do that.

Maybe he realised England were going to have another bad tournament and got out before it started.

I do not understand why this is headline news, lots going on in the world and the rest of the UK.

Just a note to help the FA.
