Same happened to me with a very nosy colleague, who I get on well with but was not interested in sharing my family photos etc with. She did ask why I'd unfriended her, and I just told her the truth that only a select few are on my list otherwise one gets inundated with notifications etc.

It was weird how she re-requested freindship within a week though, so she obviously was trying to view my profile/pictures otherwise how would she have known?!

I never accept a facebook friend request unless its someone I know directly or is someone that a friend knows. And if someones making nuisance of themselves in any way I'll unfollow them.

FB seems to create some categories automatically from information in your profile. You can create your own as well.

My interpretation of friend is someone I know so if I get a request from a complete stranger I ignore because it is just someone who wants to boast to others about how many 'friends' they have. Sad really

One of the reasons I binned FB was the friend requests from pneumatic young Russian ladies, who are doubtless non existent, fraudsters, or wanting a UK visa.

I think I've got 30 friends on FB most of which I see in person at least every couple of months.

Some have moved away but were still genuine friends for many years so nice to keep in touch.

Can't see any reason to "friend" a complete stranger, just doesn't make any sense at all..

This is exactly why I don't do it, there are maybe 10 people I'd like to make contact with again, but 10x+ that number of people that I don't want to find me if I became "visible" via FB. I wouldn't be able to deal with friend request denials, I'd feel crap, silly really.

It's quite liberating really, you can just leave them hanging if you can't bring yourself to delete their requests..
