I was asked yesterday if i would be a friend on someones new account. Well i said yes,but i also had to sign up.

Well for a laugh i have.Just over one hour ago i was searching for my surname.Page after page came up.

Then the shock,i have found an entry for my two daughters ,from my first marriage.I did notknow what to do.Be nosey and read or ignore.I ignored because i do not want to stire up any trouble.Because i don't know if me looking would show up on their page.
Did tell my wife and then moved away from the page. What a shock.

There used to be an application on facebook that showed the user who had looked at their profile, but I am not sure it exists anymore.

Tough dilema there..

If you're not 'friends' (in facebook) with another facebooker, you won't get much detail about them. You can do a name search and maybe find out which town they're from etc.

i don't let non-friends see my profile…
I dint know you could do that. I'll set that on mine, I think...stop the hordes of fit women contacting me and jeopardising my marriage.

it won't stop them contacting you offering friendship, it's just that they can't see your details and profile. they can see your friends though…

Nothing wrong with a bit of snooping... we got forced to move in a hurry when drug dealing scum moved in next door and life became a nightmare. Someone I know just happens to work for the scum's mortgage company and just happened to stumble across their file one day, where it became clear that while Mr drug dealer is doing his next stretch (firearms offences) his wife is struggling a bit with the repayments.....

I have had a facebook 'stalker' An ex-girlfriend from about 15 years ago, the messages started off pretty mundane to start off with but after about a month they got a bit suggestive and then almost pornographic. I had to tell her to cool it so she almost went 'bunny boiler' on me. All I can say is I'm glad my facebook profile didn't have any contact details on it

There's lots of security setting that you can alter. The problems is is that they are not that easy to find.

it isn't a laughing matter when your profile gets spotted by a stalker. I had to abandon two email addresses and a mobile phone number to get some peace and quiet from an ex school mate who wanted to establish a warmer than was comfortable relationship. This was on Friends Reunited. Facebook seems to be off her radar. I can look back and laugh at the episode now but it was a vexatious issue at the time.

All social networking sites ought to have shielding facilities clearly marked.

Postman - I'd not worry about having a peek. By putting profiles upon Facebook, users agree to having them accessible unless they alter the security settings. Your daughters can not complain, nor should they, if you have a peek. I'd be more than mildly curious  I'd also be wary about the possibility of developing compulsive Facebook behaviours including constant updates of moodswings, thoughts, games scores etc plus reading aforementioned characteristics/properties of your newly found Facebook friends. Of course, if you were rich enough, you'd pay some one to do all the tedious admin for you ;)
