I'm trying out new lenses at the mo... I need readers these days, and OCCASIONALLY (e.g. night driving) need glasses for distance, but ordinarily, do no need to wear them for cycling or walking about. I Tried varifocals, but seeing as I rarely need to switch between distance/reading, I didn't see the point in having them, and anyway, the distance bit just didn't seem right (eyesight sharper without than with). SO, I went back for a re-test... they actually seemed to wonder whether or not I need glasses for distance (!)... I only went there because the distance glasses I got 16 years ago didn't seem to be doing their job any more.... Replaced with just distance ones (and I have some cheapo reading ones for that, which work fine).
So, the upshot for the OP is... have a re-test if you need one... don't think "Oh, that'll do".
