Fair Weather Cyclist

I used to be a fair weather cyclist but now I cycle all year round, the winter weather in this country is very mild.

TBH wind and rain don't bother me - it rained twice, hard and prolonged on my ride today. didn't bother me.

The only thing that bugs me about rain is wearing glasses. No wipers so very quickly visiblity becomes compromised. That counts for walking, running and cycling.

However, if I am already out then I will carry on and cope with it.

The weather doesn't bother me, I've no choice during the week. Even when going on a quick blast at the weekend, it's never that bad once you get out in it. The only weather that I don't enjoy riding in is hot and humid and that's only because it tends to trigger my asthma, so the ride to work is usually at a more sedate pace.

The problem with rain, snow and wearing glasses is that it is almost impossible to see. Has there been a none windy day this year?

Only skipped 1 days commute last winter and that was due to my gears freezing up (busses didn't run next day either) brought bike in warm house rest of winter.

If it's not raining when I leave I don't mind the rain once i'm out and well into a ride but if i'm planning on going out and it's raining I'll just stay in.

i try and commute all year round , the snow always stops me so walk then , ice is a no no where possible , so out comes the car

This will no doubt upset the purists among the cycling community, but I’m a ‘fair weather’ cyclist.
I can’t be bothered with cycling in foul weather ... i.e. battling against strong winds, and raining cat’s ‘n ‘dogs


Anyone else feel the same way? ...

Why go out in the rain ? there ain't no pleasure in it , use the car and go out on my bike another day .

I'd sooner cycle to work in the rain than walk. But even walking would be quicker than driving.

Which is nonsense, there is no clothing I know of that will keep you dry on a bike in torrential rain.

The answer to this is along the lines of "If you think you will succeed, or if you think you will fail, you will be right".

If you go out thinking there will be no pleasure in the ride, you'll find no pleasure in the ride.

If you go out thinking there will be pleasure in the ride, you'll find plenty of pleasure in the ride.

That applies whether you are thinking of the wind, the rain, the heat, the insects, the frost or ice, the route, the journey or the destination.

Which is nonsense, there is no clothing I know of that will keep you dry on a bike in torrential rain.

What's the issue with not being kept dry? The skin is there to make that irrelevant.

Just make sure that your clothing keeps you warm (there's plenty of alternatives which will do that) and have fun.

i love riding in heavy downpours as long as there is no wind.

i HATE wind with a veangeance, except for once when i had the pleasure of a 27mph tail wind

I hate cowshit. The rain wakes it up and throws it everywhere, and round here it's always on a bend I'm heeled right over on
