Fairly poor commute

Poor bike choice this morning, should've taken the 'cross bike.

Came off in the morning while descending a short hill, nasty patch of ice.

Snowed a fair bit before I left, walked the bike to the nearest decent-sized road, tested the surface a bit and it was terrible- there were patches of wet, compacted snow which were really slippery (they were on 28 mm Armadillos anyway). Took me an hour to get to the nearest station- mostly walking, riding and scooting where the surface had enough fresh snow, then found out when I got there that I'd left my wallet at work.

Called Ms. P, she caught a train out to where I was and bought me a ticket.

i took the train with my reflective cycling jacket. bet i looked a right tosser!

I'll either do an off-road 'cross bike commute tomorrow or get the train and walk the rest.

Of course it's always possible that I'll get another snow day. Doesn't take much to close the site.

Wasn't really awful, except waiting around at the station for Ms. P- and that was only because I didn't have cash for a paper and a coffee.

The walk was OK, I like snow. Ms P was happy enough to rescue me.

Falling off wasn't much fun but I got away with a bit of road rash on the elbow and a slightly sore hand.

I had a similar experience without the off and waiting for my wallet, cycled the first 6 miles but walked the last 3 as the roads were gridlocked with traffic. Smiled the whole way enjoyed the drivers expressions !!

Still snowing outside, best part of 6 hrs now, going to take the bus tomorrow.

The nickname has stuck for the past 20 years, I'm not as foolhardy these days.

Even with the offs and the hairy commutes,we are still faster than our box driving friends !

With yesterday that's four icy/snowy falls in 21 years of cycling.
