Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies.

My wife and I are heading North next year and hope to be in the Falkirk area for a few days. We will be based at the Premier Inn at Bowtrees. Does anyone on here have experience of seeing the Wheel and Kelpies? Are they both accessible by bike? Also hope to get up to Stirling to see Wallace Monument and Castle. Any other things to see in the area would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

The Kelpies (fugly things, but just my opinion!) and Falkirk wheel are both on the National Cycle Network paths. Falkirk wheel is on the one that runs alongside the canal side route which covers the whole route between Glasgow and Edinburgh (good quality tarmac path mostly but a bit ropey in parts). The Kelpies are on a branch line off it, from the wheel.

I think they are cracking and the wheel is a marvel. I love all that.

The Wheel has a reasonably priced cafe, with take away options, good toilet facilities.
Better take a picnic to the Kelpies: the offers are overpriced, the queues are abysmal, the service slow (hence the queues)
No public toilets last time I was at the Kelpies (pre Corona), but they were getting built.

If you get a chance to go inside one of the Kelpies, take it - they are beautifully constructed.

Saw both a couple of years ago

We were touring, so in car (1,900 miles in a week!)

Kelpies are awesome
Plus, we were fortunate enough to see a boat on the wheel
(we’ve been on the Anderton Boat-lift, it’s grandad!)

Scottish A-Road!!
(somewhere near Tongue, l think)

Great photo's thanks. Really looking forward to going.

This will be a wonder adventure. I visited the Kelpies when cycling between the Firth of Clyde to the Firth of Forth following the Vallum Antonine Wall. If you cut and paste this link www.harlechjoe.wordpress.com into your search engine, then go to the story archived from September 2018, you may find other places to see in the Kelpies area.
