Seems that balance problems and riding bikes don't mix so after a decade of riding my MTB's throughout Europe, I'll be switching from cycling to walking tours now.

I will be putting stuff in the For Sale section but just a heads up on a Decathlon EST900 e-MTB (XL) with two batteries (400W and 300W). There is also a Titus Silk Road titanian MTB with a good spec (probably L size). Also have a Volvo/Thule tow bar bike carrier suitable for e-MTBs.

Then there small stuff like See.Sense Beam lights and a Garmin Varia.

I'll be putting the stuff up over the next week or so.

I can see why 2 wheels are no longer a good idea but how about a recumbent trike? For example, THESE look pretty interesting.

There used to be an old guy in the east staffs area who had a trike with 700c wheels and he would go out with the local club and also do audaxs on it because of balance issues. Apparently he took some keeping up with at times. Maybe worth a rethink

Sorry to read that.

Another here who gave up cycling due to balance problems. Not just balance, but confidence, fear of being taken out by cars, even other cyclists which kind of started my downfall, being able to assess situations as quickly and accurately as I used to be able to do and lack of leg strength due to a cycling caused hip break, then a leg break. I have three decent bikes here collecting dust. Like the OP is going to do, I really should put my bikes up for sale and maybe even sell my cycling gear which is nearly all high end stuff.

When long covid got me my balance was the 1st thing to go. I fell over twice while playing golf then came off my bike on a main road.
I thought of a recumbent but decided its not for me.
Then I started falling over at home and have to be very careful all the time, I can't even go for a walk now.
Been in hospital several times (last time was 8 nights) but there is nothing they can do.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I'll look at the trike and recumbent but I think my cycling days are over.

I was doing a new route that would have taken me downhill on a busy A road so was lucky to have fallen off on a quiet residential road close to home. I would have been on that hill a few minutes later so will take the hint, especially after I lost a cycling friend last year who was on a busy A road.

I think after reading a few comments on here it's coming across how as we get older we lose certain things we take for granted. Balance, strength, mental faculties and sight. With hindsight I'm sure most people would try to mitigate the problems by taking early action. All the best whatever you decide Emanresu.

Recumbent trikes are a great thing. I used to have an ICE trike. But they are hellish expensive. They need a lot of storage space and are a pain to transport anywhere. Unless you get a folder and they are rare.
