Family camping / cycling holiday in Peak District or Brecon

Im toying with the idea of a week's cycling (MTB'ing)/camping during the Bank Holiday Jubilee week and/or August.

I was thinking of Peak District or Brecon, going with the one more statistically prone to have sunshine ok, I can do overcast but no rain, ONLY JOKING!! ! My boys are 11/12 so can handle a few hills.

Can anyone recommend or advice on these two area? Im going to start a methodical research but there is nothing better than local knowledge and hearing it straight from the horses mouth, other than bias reviews.

Goodness. The Peak District ... you're kinda spoiled for choice?

Just a fwiw (and easy for me to say, cos I live within fairly easy reach), it'll be heaving over Bank Holidays. Busy on the roads and in the campsites - not that I know that, I just avoid Bank Hols!

Might be worth looking at bits that are a bit off the beaten track? Last time we did a through trip - and the bit around Tideswell, Miller's Dale and Monksdale stands out as a bit I'd like to go back to. Are you planning on using one place as a base? Or touring around?

yes you are right about BH's but I like to make the most of my time off and will not will just spend time at the campsite to go to sleep as we just go out exploring all day

I will look into those places you mention, since it'll be for about only 6/7 days I wouldnt be so keen on uprooting so often but I suppose we could do it once after 3 days

Take a look at the campsite in Hayfield. Great for mtbing there. The site is a camping and caravan club site so a bit expensive. Plus side you are 10 minutes stroll from the village and near quite a few pubs. We went with a group of friends about two years ago. It's only 8 miles from home but we had a great time

Are either of your lads in the Scouts ?
In which case there is a wonderful campsite in the Peak District which they could use (and drag you along), it's near Flash. Whilst it's in the middle of nowhere it does have the advantage of having a YHA with a bar within walking distance and a couple of great pubs within 10 mins cycling distance.

thanks for your replies. I will have a look at that campsite. No my boys dont belong to scouts but I think you can stay at YHA centres even if you are not a student or a scout

Are you looking for off-road tracks?
I am looking to go to peak distract with my 2 boys (12/10) and wife soon (not camping this time). We will probably do a circle based around the Tissington trail and High peek trail, using sustrans route 54 (quiet roads) to join them together.
