Centuries ago, I may have played Beetle as a drawing game. Yes, I know you can get the plastic kits of the bits of a beetle, but it can be done with drawing and a dice, of course.

Throwing a six on the dice gets you the body. Then the usual legs, head, antennae etc, with five, four, three, two etc. If everyone is drawing, then as well as winning by getting all the parts first, you can award prizes, or points for the ugliest beetle, the scariest beetle etc, or use your imagination. ;)

In between goes of throwing the dice, people can be embellishing the insect, but hopefully not adding extra legs.

Drawing random objects!

Take a simple concept like a car, and break down into basic parts.

Now randomise these in different orders.

eg, for a group of 6
Sheet 1 is Wheels, windows, bonnet, boot, windscreen, passenger compartment
Sheet 2 is Passenger compartment, bonnet, windscreen, windows, boot, wheels

Keep going for 6 sheets

Now have a 15 second time to draw the part of the car, and pass on to the next one..... the results can be hilarious.

Can also be done for pets, portraits, and other random objects.

Great thing is that the time and diffrent orders equals out age and drawing skills

Can also be done as Bicycle. 6 for the frame, 5 for fork, 4 for each wheel, 3 for handlebars, 2 for saddle, 1 for chainset. To make it harder, you can stipulate some aspects of build order - you have to have the frame first of course, and you can't get handlebars or front wheel until you've got your fork...

Also, heads/bodies/legs. You need longish strips of paper - an A4 sheet cut across into 4 or 6 strips is good. Each person gets a bit of paper, and draws a head in the top third of the strip, making sure to have a neck. Fold it over so that the drawing is behind, and bottom of the neck just shows, and pass the strips on to the next person to draw a body and arms, folding it again so that just the top of legs is visible, and pass on for the last time for the next person to draw legs in. You can either draw characters (nurse, astronaut, ballerina etc), or animals - with a bit of luck you get an astronaut with a cow body and ballerina legs or somesuch.

I can also recall playing Battleships on graph paper. (I know that some people will not know that such paper exists.)

Can anyone remind me of the number of squares for each ship or submarine?

I guess that aircraft carrier would be the biggest and an oblong four squares by two. Anyone remember the others?

Have you seen the new perspex film Battleships that you overlay on a coastal outline.

The New Clear ones?
