I met Henry when I was just a lad 8 or 9. As he approached I said "Hello 'enry", which got me a playful cuff to the head and "its Mr Cooper to you son." He then spent a good 10 minutes chatting to us. A gentleman.

RIP Mr Cooper.

I saw an interview with him a few years back and he used to box at well under the required weight for heavyweight catagory and put some lead weights in his pants for the weigh-in before a fight.

Then looking back on clips you can see he is well under the weight of his opponent.

So not sure why he did not box in the weight below heavyweight?

Yes, George was an accomplished boxer in his own right, though not quite to Henry's level! He was often to be seen at the ringside during the big fights, serving as Henry's second.
