....what are they all about? I'm seeing more and more of them over this way, and always being ridden on paved roads!

Nothing to me looks more ridiculous.

Perhaps I'm being a bit disingenuous, but aren't they meant to be for sand and snow?

Visited several bike shops here recently, and seen several of these beasts up close now, and am baffled by their sudden rise to fame. Got to be well overweight and stodgy compared to a normal rigid MTB with balloon tyres, which would be more than adequate for pottering about on ..........I just don't get it.....

Some people just prefer the looks  Lad at work is after one for no reason other than the fact he likes how it looks.

A pal of mine will be doing the Tasty Cheddar Audax on one of these with me in October. Should be interesting getting up Cheddar Gorge !

They're good for training purposes. They weigh as much as a small moon / Death Star, and are unbelievably draggy. Try getting a tube for one, on a Sunday afternoon, with a p*ncture.

.....well, each to their own I guess - live and let live and all that. Would be good to see one being ridden on a beach over this way, unlikely to see one on snow

I do a lot of cycling here along a canal path that is rutted, bumpy and strewn with rocks. Suspect the cycling equivalent of a Chelsea Tractor would do an admirable job on this type of terrain, but I won't be rushing to find out......
