I mainly take mine out on the beach but every now & again I enjoy just blasting through town on it, purely because I fancy riding my fat bike through town.

I saw one in Swinley forest, Bracknell, yesterday.
he was sweating and swearing a lot, looks like he had the wrong bike for the job,

I am drawn to these bikes in the shops, as I am with anything new bike related, but they don't inspire me to purchase tbh.
I liken them to beach cruisers, BMX's, etc. in the way that they're just cool looking bikes for people who want a casual ride on the prom or around town. It's almost like sticking their finger up at the establishment, aka us roadies in our dodgy Lycra? In a fun sort of way, I hasten to add.
The thing is, the more they look out of place outside of their proper surroundings, the cooler they are perceived at being and hence become more popular.
Not for me, but quite happy for others to enjoy them.

Fatbikes are not slow. They are just as quick on sand and through singletrack as any other bike - with the right rider on, obviously. Hills may be a different issue though. I've sat behind a few - and been passed by a few - at a beach race a couple of years ago, it was a real eye opener.
I thought we'd all get stuck behind them - a bit like being stuck behind a tractor while in the car. Nothing could have been further from the truth.

maybe I'm going to hell because I ride mine on tarmac, ice, mud, singletrack, rivers, mountains, sunshine, towing duties..................
and just to cheer the moaners up, who try to tell me what I should be riding and where i should be riding it

An acquaintance has a titanium fatbike, and a couple of high end mountain bikes.
He told me the fatbike is surprisingly versatile and the bike he uses more and more.
I suppose in common with other types of bikes, there will be fatbike shaped objects, but a decent one is likely to please.
