fathers day

Nothing!

Mind you daughter is only four months old, and I told the wife not to bother. I really don't want a card and present from my wife on Fathers Day. When daughter is old enough to understand it, then she can help her get me something.

I am a big sucker for Mothering Sunday, as are our children. I like to make a bit of a fuss about it, as do they.

I cannot get excited about Father's Day and as soon as our children were old enough to drop it, I asked them not to bother.

It's one of those traditions based on the square root of less than nothing.

I got nothing this year, which was quite nice. I spent the day toiling in the garden with my wife, as the teenage offspring were all away.

Bliss!

Daughter has just crawled out of her pit and presented me with some socks.

Sons have yet to make an appearance.

Update.

Younger son turned up with 200g of chocolate white mice, a bag of jelly babies and a bottle of Hobgoblin beer.

Older son turned up with a sampler pack of Glenfiddich whiskies, 12, 15 and 18 years old.

I love them all.

After visiting my father in March, he's sinced developed Alzheimer's quite seriously. My older sister told me (at the end of April) that he (my father) didn't know that she had two younger brothers.

Neither my brother nor I knew how to deal with this (contacting him might have been, at best, confusing for him, or, at worst, distressing) so we haven't spoken to him since our sister mentioned his condition.

However, today being Fathers' Day, I phoned him on the off-chance, and fortunately he was mentally coherent and recognised me. He was very happy to have had a Father's day greeting over the phone, and I was pleased that he'd returned (albeit, most likely, only temporarily) to 'normal'.

I'm visiting him in three weeks time, hopefully coordinating a visit from both my brother and sister and their respective children, as well.

He was 'thrilled' to hear from me, which also made my day.

Well I have had a cracking day.

Second son organised some tickets for us for Alton Towers. Got back about an hour ago after being twisted, turned, corkscrewed, lifted up, dropped down, shaken about, accelerated, decelerated and whizzed round all day.

Added to that a couple of cards, a book to read and a nice bottle of the old red falling down water.
