I have been working outside this morning trying to discover why I can't select all 3 chain rings. With the cables disconnected I can select all 3 so it seems to point to the front changer. I found that If I loosened the cable and pulled the changer over to the outer chain rings and then tightened up the cable clamp I could get it to go onto the middle chainring. It could just be down to adjustments although it needs quite a bit of effort on the lever.
It was fun trying to put the lever back on.

Ooh dear getting sti units back on to brackets is a nasty job for sure and well avoided in my book .

I like the ping when a small stone deflects of a tyre at 100 psi

Let's hope you get all the gears working ok

I will have to get my Pinarello Angliru lacquered and built up to see how they compare. I have read that my Angliru is an entry level bike and can be seen in how the welds have been finished and how stickers have been applied instead of masking out and spraying.
I don't think I have paid that much attention to detail for my British steel bikes before so I think I may look at them a bit more closely.

I am surprised by the weight though coming in at 24lbs for a 23.5ins frame.

Just weighed my 531 professional tubes Hardisty that is 22 1/2" size

If you put a run of the mill plain gauge road bike next to one made by one of the UK small independent frame builders you should see a fair degree of difference in the finish of the lugs and general finish of the frame.

23-24lb was pretty normal for an early 90s entry or medium level race bike. Paying more got you a slightly lighter frame, like 653 or 753, but the components weren't much lighter, just better. It all got heavier again with STI. Then carbon changed it.

I was reading somewhere I think it was a Belgian team which specified a heavier gauge of tubing for their bikyes as they were more concerned about durability over weight. I think it might have been Viking I I R C.
