This is the problem with the frame paint wise, corrosion! There are several areas the most awkward will be the area by the seat post. The aluminium has bubbled up underneath the paint and has left

a white powder. I have just cleaned up thefront area a bit. I will have to try to keep it small as I don't want it to go into the rainbow faded area. The blue areas are going to be a bit awkward as I don't want them to go into the lettering. The white is a white pearl and I think it is thebasecoat for the blue as well. I will have to spray out some test panels to see if that is the case.

I have been having a play. My snow white pearl base arrived the other day so I thought I would try spraying a test panel. I have never sprayed this pearl paint before so I was curious to how it went and looked. I dug my airbrushes and compressor out. The paint is very thin and even more so when thinned.
I had already sprayed a test panel in white primer so I sprayed a couple of light coats of pearl on. It doesn't cover but gives a lot of sparkle, like frost on a car in sunlight. When the panel was dry I masked off half of it and put some thinnedroyal bluecandy into my airbrush. I sprayed several coats on to build up the colour. The blue looks too red a shade for my bike which is strange as a test piece a few years ago on a silver base looked much closer. I could try mixing some green candy in with the blue to see if that will reduce the redness.
Here are some shots from today.

A bit confused! I assumed that the whole bike was originally sprayed white pearl at the factory with coloured transparent paint sprayed over the top to create the various other colours. This might be the case for the rainbow effect banding but following my test samples yesterday it seems that the blue front section it more of a candy/ flamboyant finish with a bright silver basecoat. Although the colour of the test panel in the picture looks close it in fact a mile out and looks more like a plain blue colour with only a slight sparkle when held at certain angles. The white colour is a close match and will be faded into the existing paintwork so shouldn't notice .
