Up the junction by Squeeze

I never thought it would happen
With me and the girl from clapham
Out on a windy common
That night I ain’t forgotten
When she dealt out the rations
With some or other passions
I said you are a lady
Perhaps she said I may be
We moved into a basement
With thoughts of our engagement
We stayed in by the telly
Although the room was smelly
We spent our time just kissing
The railway arms we’re missing
But love had got us hooked up
And all our time it took up

I got a job with stanley
He said I’d come in handy
And started me on monday
So I had a bath on sunday
I worked eleven hours
And bought the girl some flowers
She said she’d seen a doctor
And nothing now could stop her

I worked all through the winter
The weather brass and bitter
I put away a tenner
Each week to make her better
And when the time was ready
We had to sell the telly
Late evenings by the fire
With little kicks inside her

This morning at 4:50
I took her rather nifty
Down to an incubator
Where thirty minutes later
She gave birth to a daughter
Within a year a walker
She looked just like her mother
If there could be another

And now she’s two years older
Her mother’s with a soldier
She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me
From bar to street to bookie
No more nights by the telly
No more nights nappies smelling

Alone here in the kitchen
I feel there’s something missing
I’d beg for some forgiveness
But begging’s not my business
And she won’t write a letter
Although I always tell her
And so it’s my assumption
I’m really up the junction

More personal lyrics are those in The Alarms Walk forever by my side which we played at our wedding ( Mike Peters had at his too, and it was his song !)

Walk forever by my side
Never lose sight of the day

When we will run through all our weakness
On through the fields
Strewn with our broken dreams
Walk forever by my side

Stay forever in the light
Never lose sight of the way
For I alone can’t face the future
I need your strength
To help me make it through
Walk forever by my side

Stay forever in the light
Walk on ’til morning
All my days are yours
Walk on ’til morning
All my days are yours

Hope you’ll stay with me tonight
Lift the veil from my eyes
For I am weak and I am foolish
I need your love
To see me through the darkness
Hope you’ll stay with me tonight

Walk on ’till morning
All my days are yours
Walk on ’till morning
All my days are yours

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam
But I used a little too much force...

...She said to me "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered something underneath my breath
She studied the lines on my face
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When She bent down to tie the laces of my shoe
Tangled up in Blue...

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue...

...All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives.
Don't know how it all got started,
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives.
But me, I'm still on the road
Headin' for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

From Tangled up in Blue, Bob Dylan (IMHO the world's greatest lyricist). You could fill a whole thread with his lyrics - this was just one that came to mind... :becool:

Not that it strikes a chord within me, but I always thought this lyric from Lauryn Hill's Forgive Them Father was brilliant:

Like Cain and Abel, Caesar and Brutus, Jesus and Judas,
Backstabbers do this

It would have been better if Caesar and Brutus came after Jesus and Judas IMO, but still brilliant.

Haven't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this is a repeat but...

'ad a love affair with Nina

In the back of my Cortina

A seasoned up hyena

Could not'ave been more obscener

She took me to the cleaners

And other misdemeanours

But I got right up between 'er

Rum & 'er Ribena, well

Nice one Touche, anything from that album will do.

Also:

Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense
Expressed in dollars and cents
Pounds shillings and pence
Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense

Puzzle game procrastinator!
Blimey another flashback...

I was being given a lift by a man with a dodgy sense of humour in his convertible. He had the  New Boots and Panties album on his car stereo and it was a sunny day so he had the top down. We had just stopped at a crossing to let 5 nuns walk across when Plaistow Patricia was about to come on. Knowing how the song begins, I reached forward and turned the sound right down. He reached forward and turned it up to full volume.

A******s, b******s, f*****g c***s and p****s!

I could have died, and so could the nuns...

He thought it was hilarious!

In a cybernetic fit of rage
She p*ssed off to another age
She lives in 1999
With her new boyfriend, a blob of slime

From John Cooper Clarke - 'I married a monster from outer space'
A child arrived just the other day
Came in to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch
And bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
That made me cry.

Its been awhile
Since I could look at myself straight
and it's been awhile
since i said i'm sorry
It's been awhile
Since I've seen the way the candles light your face
It's been awhile
But I can still remember just the way you taste
But everything I can't remember as ****ed up as it may seem
I know it's me i cannot blame this on my father
he did the best he could for me

It's been a while
Since I could hold my head up high
and it's been a while since i said i'm sorry

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
Paint your left knee green
Then extract your wisdom teeth
Form a string quartet
And pretend your name is Keith
