Well, I've been sent back to Heathrow from Manchester Airport so now I don't get to do any cycling. I was hoping I'd be safe up here til about March, but now I'm down here til March then looking for a job.

Get this stupid shift pattern: from 9th Sept I'll be doing two late shifts (12-12) followed by one early shift (6-6) at LHR, then driving up to home, then two day shifts (6-2) at MAN, followed by three days off.

Still, I should be able to cycle for those two MAN days every week.

Looks like stupidly long hours.... A bit worrying considering your job, I wouldn't want an overtired mechanic working on my plane. Hope you find the time to get out on the bike.

I'm not sure that shift pattern is legal. Have you got a union at work? Might be worth taking it to them. 6 hours including sleep and getting home it's not enough time away from work. I can't remember the hours but iirc it breaks European working time directives. Google it, it's unsafe for you to be maintaining craft with little rest time

Plus, if the original contract has signed away the rights to work within EU directives then not much to fight on.
Big payments don't take into account mistakes made when tired, dodgy gamble for any work place

I'm a contractor and one of the reasons I still have a job is my legendary flexibility.

I could say I'm not happy with the setup, but every other option would be worse.

With this pattern, I can cover the three days at Heathrow and still only be away from my family for 2 nights out of 8.

The actual work environment isn't particularly stressed, and on the second night (tonight) I stay in the office, so I don't lose 1 1/2 hrs going to a hotel & back...

Anyway- Tuesday morning I'll be cycling to work again!! I don't care about the 50mph gusts, I just can't wait!
