Every now and then people warn me about how dangerous is commuting in London. And guess what ? at the start of week ,I fell of bike, at the safest location of my commute,in broad day light, a one way cycle route clearly separated from main road(with concrete blocks). A crazy delivery man come out of a sho,p right on my way. I slammed brake(both) with force. And I think, as it was wet, front brake pad stick to rim, and I gone face down, back wheel in the air. As it was cycle route, speed wasn't great, but, lifting of rear wheel in air made me fall on ground with great speed on right cheek, thanks to helmet for minimizing impact. Got bruise in cheek, lip. Onlookers/and the guy who caused this helped me to wipe blood, offered water, I think. I was not in full thinking capacity for atleast 20 mins. Crazy me, should have called ambulance straight away. Instead, I choosen to walk my bike(yes, she is fine) to complete my commute, to realize later that, my left arm is complaining. Gone to nearest tube, and back home. Changed clothes, called better half, and walked to nearest A & E. They found fracture in my left arm. They taken me in, to discuss, if it requires operation. Fracture is near my left elbo. But, today they dicharged me without any opearation( I'm happy,
). But, I'll be visiting hospital every week.
Thing made me stunned is, speed with which I hit ground. I will always advocate helmet now on, and without which, I would have in worst situation.
One more thing, I want to point out is, we always concentrate on dangerous things on commute, like, busy roads,HGV's, night time cycling, but safest things could also turn dangerous. As said earlier, I face this accident on safest possible portion of my commute.
So, now, no cycling up to 5 weeks, more resistace to my futue cycling plans from other half. I told you so stares so from collegues and my incident as excuse for people dont' want to take cycling.
