Soft lads in your neck of the woods  We had 2 fallers yesterday with 1 requiring a new helmet and they both rode home

You learn from these episodes, but come back stronger :bicycle:

I did ride home as the wife was away so I couldnt get a lift, although I admit I would have preferred not to cycle as I was feeling terrible and had to limp home the last half mile. I think alot of people learnt from my lesson as the club has changed it's starting location to avoid any housing estates or side roads and todays route has been changed to main roads only but unfortunately I won't be there. Thankfully I'll only be out for a couple of weeks.

Give it, mmm, five, maybe six days for the bruising to blossom beautifully:

I hope you realise, I meant to say GWS, just didn't get round to it

Get well soon. Our club was due to ride today, but as the ride leader arrived, he came a cropper on a slippy patch, so we all chose to call off the ride, especially as most of us were on road bikes.

On Thursday I fell off twice in 100 yards, saw a bloke in front fall off then met two other people with facial injuries from falling off.

I just pulled the trigger and ordered myself a couple of Marathon Winter Reflexes. I've been thinking about it for a while. Took me a while to decide whether to get a set on the Tricross and ride with them all winter, or get a set for my old MTB and use it when it's icy. I finally decided to get them on the Tricross — I can always change the tyres if it looks like the weather might warm up for a bit, and then I get to ride the Tricross all the time. (And maybe I'll get some snow tyres on the MTB if it looks like snow, rather than just ice.)

Came off on the way to Sainsbury's this morning. First off for 7 years. It was OK outside the house, saw a couple of bits of frozen water in the gutters en route but not much to worry about.

Left the only real roundabout on the route to go down a bus and bike road. It's sheltered, and it just looked as if it was a bit damp. It was. damp on top of a sheet of ice. Bike went left while I went right. I'm going to have a juicy bruise on my right thigh, and probably right shoulder as well. There's a scrape of enamel off my brake lever as a permanent reminder of why I don't ride on ice. Not knowingly at any rate. Fortunately there are no signs of any other damage to me or the bike.

7 years ago the off was on black ice too.

I was very impressed with the drivers who were around. Two who'd been on the roundabout behind me saw me come off and stopped to make sure I was OK. Though one spoilt it by saying it looked quite funny, as if I was coming off in slow motion!

When you get the Marathon Winters, which are awesome tyres, head on over to the Schwalbe UK website. Use their "contact us" page to tell them that you lost a few of the spikes when running them in (you probably wont though) and ask them where to get more from. If you include your mailing address in your message then they'll almost certainly send you some out in the post for free. I got about 80 odd replacements this way :-) Only had to use a couple of them so far.

Be clear about this - two wheels and ice don't go together. Turbo every time, it may be dull but you keep fit and stay safe. Then when the better weather comes, you won't be nursing injuries. Of course, there's always a trike or a three wheel recumbent (lowest centre of gravity going). It will still slide when you brake too much, though.

Can't go to the shops on a turbo! ^_^
(Thinks: wonder whether sufferfest or whatever they're called do a "going to the shops" video?)
