So, I've been doing static trapeze now for the last three months and having a great time.

It's been teaching me some very interesting facts about myself such as physical self reliance, the form that my fear takes, trusting in myself and following through with a course of action on the equipment, plus the side of me that used to train for cycling just loves the set of muscles that are building up along my arms!!

Anyway, today whilst in a front balance where you hold yourself straight on the bar by balancing on your hips, I somehow let go and fell forward onto the mat and landed on my neck. No entirely sure what happened, maybe tiredness from the partial FNRttC, maybe just a bad call today.

Ouch - my trapezius muscle in the back (no pun intended) where my shoulder blades are, feel incredibly inflamed and sore. Thankfully no serious harm done after a check out by my teacher and sitting there on the side with my soft shell jacket as a makeshift brace!

However, afterwards I tried to cycle and pulling away at the traffic lights caused such a twinge of pain that I let out a LOUD trail of expletives!

Oh well....lets hope it heals soon, sat with an ice pack on my shoulder blades and trying not to make jerky sudden movements...what a tit!

Get well soon, TT! And I hope it doesn't put you off trapezing (what IS the right word for this?)!

Thanks T,

I think it's trapeezing? Not sure to be honest!

Hope the jam making is going well - I spoke to a girl the other day who has 4 crates full of different jams - fruit jams, courgette relish..and she brought some home made scones with black currant jam and raspberry jam..mmm divine!!

GWS. Have you some vitamin i for tomorrow? Just in case.

I know all trapezes are static, or think so, but does static mean that you're focusing on holding positions on it rather than swinging about?
Sounds like fantastic core strength building.

Yeah, I have some very high dosage Ibuprofen from when I had my wisdoms out last year...they should come in handy if things flair up.

I don't like to do the resting thing though so have to be careful not to strain things.

Static trapeze is without the swinging and is as you say about holding positions and transitioning from one position to another. It is very good for core strength and upper body strength but I've found the psychological aspect of it really fascinating - just the ability to not let go is a big thing for me on the bar as there's just this irrational fear- it's not that high and there is a crash mat below me and everything is taught in a systematic and logical technique...pushing past the fear.

Still I bet for the next couple of weeks after today's fall I might return to a wimpier state next time! Oh well, will have to see!

Did they teach you how to fall? And land? Letting go on purpose would be more difficult than hanging on I think/guess.

I was tired I think and went blank as to how to get out of the balance position, it'd been a long time since I did it last. Usually it's rare to fall, what I seem to remember is asking someone how to come out of the balance and was just tired and then without realising it I'd let go and lost balance before she could talk me through how to come out of it. It hurts a lot, you get bruises and sometimes burns from the rope, it can sometimes mean that you let go out of burning pain or tiredness but it depends where you are - just unfortunate I was balancing on my hips!!

Ian- thanks, I should be alright - just hoping to be cycling fit in not too long, not great at the 'resting' business until I really, really have to.

I've just realised I've been confusing trapeze with the gymnastic bar thingies that are fixed and that are swung around on, the mention of rope finally gave it away. Idiot.

Carry on!

Cheers!!

Odd night of sleep, woke up a few times and couldn't get back to sleep. Will see how it goes but it feels a bit better than late last night.
Luckily, I have details of a massage therapist who needs to get a load of practice and assessment clients in so will be contacting her to look into it, if that doesn't sort it then I'll definitely get a physio onto it
