Hi all, ive just bought a Felt FC frame set from eBay and maybe be concerned over nothing here but....
Does the lower fork bearing run on the fork taper or should there be a metal ring placed on there first?

Kind regards
John

Normally, you would expect a crown race to site over the taper..

The downside is when you wear that integral race out you have to buy new forks and not just a crown race...

That will not happen because it is not a race. It is merely a seat. The bearing, being a cartridge bearing, has a built-in race - two in fact. But should that happen, you'll only have to buy one fork, not many, as in, one fork, many forks.

You won't wear it out, the bearings run inside the sealed cartridge. "Race" is actually a bit of a misnomer as all the crown race does on an integrated headset is locate the cartridge bearing centrally on the fork steerer, just as the taper inside the head tube does.

EDIT: Beaten to it by Yellow Saddle.
