People lash out on this super duper fibre, and then use a Windows machine or a Mac. That's like hiring Brands Hatch and then riding a horse and cart round it.

We've got (supposedly) 76Mb from BT and for most of the time it's been something like that. But just before Christmas it dropped off, never more than 54MB and sometimes into single figures.
BT bloke came, spent an hour fettling and got us back up into the low 70's but said he'd need to get something done at the exchange over the next day or two.

Next morning two different BT bods were doing something at the box in the street and we went off completely for about an hour - they disappeared before it came back on and it hasn't gone above 54MB since. I'm still waiting for a call back from BT (other matters have prevented me chasing it up)...

It's a shame as up until this I'd have recommended them to anyone, but not now.

That said, we can still have half a dozen devices running at 50MB and it doesn't miss a beat. We had a barbecue last summer and there were at least 12 different devices logged onto the wi-fi, including streaming music and it all worked without any issues

We have Virgin Media cable Broadband, 100mbps.

Even with both kids watching Youtube/ Netfix on their tablets and us streaming a film to the TV doesn't miss a beat.

Had the option of 200mbps but don't really see the need.

Wouldn't go back to BT/ Openreach if you paid me..

Using Wi-Fi slows it down a huge amount, try a direct cable between the hub and the computer and see the difference in speed.

We've just been given the new BT Smart Hub 6, and there are extra controls to limit the kids access and it's got easier to manage. It has meant I've had to give the two SMART TV's fixed IP as it would not let them connect (quick google) but the WIFI signal is stronger ! Next job, is to check the missus VPN connections work to her emplyer before I go to bed - she is out now,but is working from home tomorrow and we've not tried it yet on the new hub.

I asked BT to install fibre broadband to my mother's place in Cornwall. There was a junction chamber twenty metres from the cottage. It already had connections to all the adjacent houses yards away. It took BT/Openreach 53 weeks to get the job done. I imagine that a broadband supplier operating out of a chip shop in Southend could have done the job quicker....but hey!...BT is "A World Class Company".
