Rather arrogant of both teams I thought.

I think everyone has the right to wear or not wear the poppy. But I don't think that a sporting body such as FIFA has the right to sanction it.

I think they will be hard pressed to show it is religious, political, or personal. It is a show of respect for the fallen from many nationalities and religious backgrounds regardless of their political preferences.

I'm hoping for a ten point deduction so both of us don't qualify .

Although Scotland don't need any help from FIFA in that respect.

This relatively recent obsession with the poppy is odd to me.
Anecdotally, I see less members of the general public wearing poppies these days, but more and more 'compulsion' to do so on TV and in public events.

Yes I often think this. Walking down the high street I guess 20% are poppy wearers. But heaven forbid anyone on TV doesn't wear one. Seems the powers that be dictate you must wear one if you're on TV for whatever reason

I have to say that I've always respected the fallen of the two world wars but never felt the urge to wear a poppy during a game in the days when I played rugby. Wear one before and afterwards in the clubhouse but never during.
I am with you on that point. I don't know where the idea came from.
