Two of my portable hard drives storing hundreds of image files appear to have been wiped. It hasn't sunk in yet.

Both the drives are showing available disc space consistent with the files still being present although I can't see them. McAfee says I picked up a trojan which has since been deleted. I still can't see my files. I am starting to panic.

To the forum - could anyone recommend any bona fide good data recovery software to get my files back? Free software would be good although I would be prepared to pay as I am becoming desperate.

I did a quick internet search but there are so many and quite frankly I could be downloading another malicious programme.

Any help much appreciated.

Have you tried running chkdsk?

If the size shows its still there it could be just indexing that has gone

You could try pandora recovery. It worked for me when I lost a load of holliday pics. It's a free jobby and obviously a bit limited but it does work.

Thanks for the help. I know about carrying out recovery from a "healthy drive". I just need some good trustworthy recovery software. As I say free would be good but if I have to buy/download something then so be it.

I have done a bit of searching and seen this

Any thoughts / experience? Could they be legitimate?

Thanks again.
