The other thing is; as I go through all of the old files, it becomes obvious that I don't need 80% of the hanging files any more. House insurance, car insurance, phone bills, utility bills, TV licence etc... is all online. The only time you need it is to print it out as proof you exist.

That's why Rocky shreds everything, he doesn't exist.

I bought a load of boxes last year to keep all my paperwork organised as my existing set up exceeded maximum capacity. Needless to say, the boxes remain empty and the paper mountains continue to grow in assorted places around the house.

I moved a year ago and ended up with about 6 large boxes full of paperwork and old magazines. They sat in the corner of my bedroom for 6 months, when I finally decided to start sorting through them. Doing 6 boxes at once would be too much for me, so I decided to do the sorting in 2 instalments of 3 boxes ... I now have 3 boxes of paperwork and old magazines in one corner of the room, 3 empty boxes in another corner, and a pile of paperwork and old magazines on the floor in a third corner!

When I moved from Sweden to Norway 9 years ago, I shredded ALL my Swedish pension/bank/insurance documents etc. etc. and felt tremendously relieved. I never received any demands and still have money in a bank there.

Shredding is excellent for a good night's sleep.

Now looking forward to getting rid of the paperwork I've accrued over the last 9 years.

I've filled 7 box files and most of the wheelie bin. I'm nearly there. Need to collate the online stuff and do some scanning. Very cathartic.
