My Mrs does a lovely job on the admin. I can never find stuff and she's always busy when I need it. Started a new file on my Mother since I started as her Attorney recently. I'll accept your plaudits now :thanks:

When I moved from Sweden to Norway 9 years ago, I shredded ALL my Swedish pension/bank/insurance documents etc. etc. and felt tremendously relieved. I never received any demands and still have money in a bank there.

Shredding is excellent for a good night's sleep.

Now looking forward to getting rid of the paperwork I've accrued over the last 9 years.
If you have a decent shredder - the one I have keeps jamming!

I didn't know that sheet-feeding scanners were available at reasonable cost. Thanks for the info.

and the wicked thing about it is that it scans both sides at the same time - it has saved me so much time - all my field notes are A4 pieces of paper - so when I finish transcribing I just archive and shred - if I need to refer back I can access them quickly on my desktop or tablet

Edit
if you do get into scanning - decide on what format you are going to use for the file name when you start - I use reverse date ie "160620 - descriptive file name" sorts easily - makes finding things easier

I have an mf device now which does both sides. For the amount I do it suits, though a while ago I did look seriously at the one you suggested but in the end decided a good mf will do.

I thought this thread said 'filling', and after my trip to the dentist this morning I might have something to contribute...

Actually, I do. I keep my filing under control by sticking to one 4" ring binder. I punch holes and file - which keeps things at least chronological - and when I can't get any more stuff in, I spend half an hour chucking stuff out to make room for more. It's a brilliantly simple and effective system. Makes it near-impossible to actually find anything when you need it, but hey ho, you can't have everything.

That's not 'filing', that's 'keeping tidy'! :okay:

In what format do you save the scanned docs, and how do you search for them subsequently? With paper, you can quickly flick through a file until you visually recognise something. Is there a visual method of doing the same with a whole heap of scanned documents?

Thanks.
