As per title, I've never really bothered editing anything too much but I had one of those days with a couple of surreal interactions with 3 drivers the other day and I just want to save the relevant sections of film without storing too much. The simpler, the better as I like to keep it simple and it's not something I plan on doing too much off.

TIA

It depends on how experienced you are,
I use this http://www.videosoftdev.com/free-video-editor/download
but I only ever need to add Lyrics to music video, it’s old school,
it runs with very little resources which means you don’t need a computer
with lots of memory high end graphics card or very fast processor.
You can use it for free, by turning off hardware excelleration just
before you render your finished project, otherwise the rendering options
will be limited unless you buy the program, which is actually a yearly fee
paid one year at a time, but as said, use it with all features on, then disable
when you are about to render and it works well, for my needs at least.

Save your footage, then make a copy of it and work on
the copy, the program I linked to is non destructive and will
not alter the copy, it will add your changes when you render
the project AND save them to a new file, so nothing gets altered
on your original.

I would be careful too about editing something I may want to use
in the courts or such, meta data, tags, time stamps etc could be lost
Indicating tampering / editing, be careful is all I can say.

Yeah, good point. I'm definitely not looking to alter anything, my cyclic 6 captures film in 10 minute chunks and I just wanted to keep the relevant parts. I'm not very experienced with editing video but I'll have a look at your link. Thanks.

Can you not connect your smart phone to pc with a USB cable, drag and drop the file into your phone then use your phones built in video editing facility that you would use if you had filmed it on your phone? Or is a different file format?

I think I've done what I needed to do on YouTube just with their editing tools. It was 3 very different interactions on the same ride home, one made me laugh and one made my blood boil so much I let myself get a bit carried away. Typically, I only had the rear camera on, and it only tells half the story.

Does the camera not come with some software for downloading to a computer,
if so this software will most likely have been designed to retain whatever information
The camera is set up to record, such as time stamp etc.
Most software that comes with a camera can usually do some editing too.
