I want to see the remake of Mad Max when they make it, but I am convinced that they will ruin it like they do 90% of other remakes and sequels are made much later eg: Terminator 4 and Predators. Having said that I preferred the recent remake of True Grit to the original as I really do not care for John Wayne. I also enjoyed the remake of Dawn Of The Dead, even though it was nothing like the original and not as good, it was still good fun.

Regarding The Thing I think that they would ruin it. I really used to love the atmosphere that Carpenter's films had in the 80's. The Thing and Escape From New York were great. However when he made the sequel Escape From L.A. in 1996 it was a stinking pile of turd. Some things are better left and I have a feeling that the Mad Max remake will never capture that excellent post apocalyptic atmosphere that both Mad Max and Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior had. Then again it cannot be any worse than Beyond The Thunderdome surely. I hope to god that it is not in that garbage 3D also, if it is I will not even bother watching it.

I disagree. They'll ruin it. Rob Bottin's SFX in that film were (and still are) superb. Bottin and his ilk are craftsmen. CGI is just the easy way out IMO.

Hancock needs to be remade with a better 2nd half.... the bourne films need to be remade without matt dull as dishwater damon in... in fact, all mat damon films could be vastly improved by casting somebody or even something else... he's got the screen presence of a tea bag

There's a prequel to The Thing, called "The Thing" out later this year. It's supposed to be quite true to the original and takes place in the Norwegian camp seen at the start of the Carpenter version.

I thought Peter Jackson was going to do a remake of the Dambusters. That could be good because the special effects were a bit ropey in the original.

It seems to have faltered a bit.

I'm not a fan of remaking films just to update the effects. The Dambusters was a great film, about a fantastic subject, and the effects didn't matter one bit, to me. I don't need a realistic flood to understand the effect on people, and the dangers the crews faced, and the ingenuity of the inventions. And I'd rather have a film that had a few real Lancasters in it, than hoards of CGI ones.

The Episodes 1, 2 and 3 of Star Wars were crap, compared with 4,5 and 6. Yes, they had legions of cleverly generated robots and creatues, all carefully designed to be humanoid but oh so clearly NOT men in suits, but the script and plot were rubbish. In 4,5 and 6, there were very obviously people in suits, but they were great films.

As for remakes I'd like to see... Wierdly, I've often wondered if they could remake Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Nothing whatsoever wrong with the original, I love it, but I wonder if it could be reinterpreted. No idea who would play them. Just curious.

How about 'The Thing' starring Wallace and Grommit in a camp site near Skegness., plasticine hell!!
The Eighties Version is still good though, really captured the paranoia.

Agree about 'Hancock', interesting idea that went downhill as soon as he met his wife and ended up the usual action film.
For some reason i thought that maybe it would be good to have a remake of the 'Elephant Man'. With the proper victorian attitudes and some decent research, but i thought the David Lynch version was pretty good.
Mentioning David Lynch, got to mention 'Dune', sorry someone had to. Needs someone very brave and spread over 3 films. But it may not appeal to everyone, but could up a clasic if done right. 'War of the Worlds' is another one, set it in the Victorian era with good characters and minimum CGI.
Also 'Moby Dick', think Gregroy Peck would be hard to replace. Still like watching it now. Think someone like Christopher Ecclestone as Captain Ahab, a little left field i know but he has that certain attitude that Ahab needs.
But if the film was good in the era it was made, it should be left alone (eg Planet of the Apes, look what happened to that). People just need to accept the tech as it was then.
