Much better - getting nearer!

However they only flew at about 15 - 30 feet. That might not get over most houses, and I want togo as the crow flies! Call me again when thy can reach, let's say... 800 feet

Just put more effort in, generating lift.
IF you get caught in an updraft you may never get back down.
