Just had a bit of excitement, there is (was) a field of barley at the back of our garden, it's just gone up in flames at an alarming rate, the neighbours and I were manning the hose pipes over the fence, but the fire brigade saved the day.

Did the whole field burn or did some of it escape?

Serious loss for whoever owned it but at least the fire was contained. It is scary how a fire can spread if things are really dry.

I’m surprised it hasn’t been harvested yet, there’s quite a lot that’s been brought in already , quite early this year I believe

I suppose it depends on where you are in the country but lots of green barley still in the field round here.

Hopefully it was relatively small scale for the farmer.

It did look ready for harvesting, it is ready early this year.
