Completed my first 50 miler today. Was determined to do it as wanting to try some sportives next year..
boy do I need to get the miles in.
My shoulders ached at the end, no energy left in me even though I took plenty of water/energy drink and a bar and
powergel. had some left over but don't think they would of given me any more kick..think i'll take some real food with me next time, maybe a sandwich.
Also only stopped once for 5 minutes, a few times more but just for a minute to drink and get a energy (powergel) haribo type ...
Distance 50 miles( 80.6 km)
time 3 hours 8 minutes..plus 22 minutes for stops.
av speed 25.7 km
max speed 55.4 km..must of been a short decline..never been so fast and had to dodge sunken grates .
calories burned 2,489...like I said...totally cream crackered at the end but pleased I did it..will try again

in a weeks time .. though not bothered about bettering my time..just doing it without feeling totally drained.

I did my first 50 a few weeks ago, my legs were sore the next day but I did a 20 mile recovery ride the next day which helped massively. Wish I'd only made it 10 though!
I did mine in 3 hours and a few seconds, no stopping, even managed to get some PRs after 46miles which was nice (towards the end I decided to push myself to do the 50 in 3 hours). Mine was in the rolling countryside of Warwickshire though and not in Yorkshire! @RAYMOND how much climbing did you do?

Not many climbs and then they weren't that much of a climb though some felt it at the time.
Looks easy on videos and tv but its not.
I suppose it will get easier but will probably stick to mainly 30 milers.

Are you on a road bike? If so your shoulders shouldn't ache. Check your reach isn't too long.

Anyway, keep it up.
