I like how you cut my post down but kept the emoticon at the end

True, but don't you feel pro* when you clip in practically immediately? I personally don't rush to get clipped in.

*by pro i mean the feeling of 'oooohhhh yyyeeaahhh.......who's the cycling master'

I've found that i only need a half a pedal stroke in a relatively easy gear on the majority of starts to get clipped in other than steep hills - which maybe the fear of falling on my backside is too overwhelming. I'll try harder next time to pedal myself away before trying to clip in on the steep hills.
Road_Runner, old bean....I don't aspire to being "Pro". I'm way too old. Taking a couple of pedal rotations and getting away OK seems like a better way than being "Well Hard" and falling over on your arse. Just my personal opinion.

Hell no, they never unclip. They never stop for traffic lights and all the other cars are pushed off the road for them.

How do people clip in on steep hills? :/[/QUOTE]

Hover the cleat over the peddle while peddling with the instep/middle bit of your foot. As soon as you feel that you wont have to put your foot down on the ground click in.It eventually becomes second nature with practice, though with your smooth road shoes peddling with the heel isn't as easy as it is with cleats.

Just had an off outside my house. It's a bit chilly so decided to stick my overshoes on as it looks like showers for the commute home. Jump onto the bike and my overshoe has slipped over the front of the cleat(spd-sl). Put my weight through the pedal expecting to hear "click" only to have the foot slide off, knee hit the floor and the bike spin round and end up on the road. The end result was one bloody knee, one bloody knee warmer and a twisted break hood.

Just cleaned my knee and stopped the bleeding, loosened and realigned the hood, had a coffee and now off to the station as otherwise I will be late for work.
