First commute of 2009

I'll have to put mine off till Monday and I'll probably go the most direct way only 3.2mls.

Did my first one today .. I've gone back to using the slightly longer route * through the woods 'cos I walked up there with the family yesterday for the first time in ages and noticed that it was a whole bunch drier than the bog I've been going through lately on the shorter route.

I don't mind a bit of mud, but it's a bit depressing to arrive at work on Monday morning having cleaned and lubed the bike on Sunday and find it's all buried under 10cm of mud again.

* about seven and a quarter miles, instead of six and a quarter on the shorter route.

Biked in today

I biked in today. Making the most of the mild weather. My trips around 10 miles. Got a big club Reliability on Sunday!

My first commute of the year today as well.

@16 miles there and about the same back depending on what route I take.

Was chilly and the roads were slippy, but it felt great to get back into it all again.

My first commute for a month - it was a rude shock after spending the last 4 weeks cycling in Asia with 30C temperatures. Mind you not sure which was the worse shock to the system, sub zero temps or being back at work ;)

and I bottled it today. I don't mind frost, I don't mind cold and was even tentatively looking forward to a bit of nice soft snow. But we had a light dusting of snow last night (~ 1cm) which appeared to have a layer of ice under it (based on my walking around the road this morning anyway) and that caused me to bottle it: too slippy.

The larger roads were actually OK, but my route to work is mostly little roads / back lanes and off road. And the local council are rubbish at gritting those. ;)

And my first commute today. Lovely and crisp air, I was toasty warm on the bike, although I was freezing whilst teaching.

Goodness I don't half lose fitness quickly! 4km/hour average down. Mind you I am recovering from a nasty cold.
