i'm thinking of getting something like a felt f7
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-f7-sora-2014/
carbon forks and frame, sora, £700 and then knowing me as i ride it i will end up relacing front and rear mech and brake calipers with 105 or even ultegra if i can afford and wheels will be upgraded to shimano r501's or fulcrum racing 7's so it may be better to by an aright base bike and just upgrade from that as i go
Cheers Ed

Only the seriously insane try that one!
Can one be jokingly insane?

Tons aren't that hard once you've built up the mileage and learnt what you need to do in terms of fuelling & pacing to get through OK. I'm sure the challenge regulars (and the audaxers etc on here and YACF) would agree.

I accomplished my first this year as well despite riding all my life (and going off to cycle around the world - well trying to cycle around it)... I routinely manage the metric tons and am in the monthly metric challenge - have even managed a 100km off-road with camping equipment... distance is not normally a problem for me (my commute 3 times a week is 22 miles each way)... there is just a huge jump from completing your first imperial century to trying for one every month starting in what is the darkest and often wettest/coldest months of the year.... and I still maintain that the imperial monthly century challengers are all mad as hatters....

I don't like the sound of the brakes! (A few of the reviewers commented on how awful they are.)
could easily and cheaply upgerade these to sora, tiagra or 105

i tried to stop roughly every 20 miles, which really doesn't seem all that far when you think about it and had something to eat and drink and then got on with it (these stops were normally about max 5 mins) and just made sure i had a huge breakfast, lots of apples and lots of snack bars en route and then a huge dinner when i got home! :hungry:
