It's something I've considered but the only real reservation I have about is all the parked cars on those roads.

Ah well, some lovely bruises have formed

So my recipe for success is to filter slower and get a nice shiny bike bell... :-)[/quote]

Don't forget a nice sprinkling of avoiding left hand filtering on top of your bell buns!

This incident is what Airzounds were made for.

Was she injured at all? Did you exchange details? Are either of you insured (3rd party liability)?

Is she likely to sue you for PI or you her for your injuries?

As many have said, ride a little slower and more cautiously in future. I see too many cyclists barrelling along at insane speeds without a hope in hell of avoiding a collision with pedestrians, other cyclists or indeed other cars or vehicles that may cross their paths. They are total numptees with "Accident waiting to happen" tattoed across their foreheads.

I hope your injuries are not too painful and heal quickly.

Well, this is also something I'm totally unsure of.

No details were swapped, she seemed perfectly fine just shaken up and very apologetic.

I'm pretty sure I got the worst of it all.

I'm just looking at this as a very cheap learning lesson, no one was injured particularly badly, it was low cost as the sum total of damage is a bruised ego and a set of cycling shorts. Things could have been so much worse if there was actually fast moving traffic in the lane which I ended up landing in.

Slightly OT, If you can find a suitable alternative timely route to the CS2 (I travel Stratford station <> Liverpool St), then I'm interested. Some sections of the CS2 you are forced to LH filter as the middle is kerbed pavement and between the dual lanes is full of motorbikes... Most days it's fine and you can travel in the bus lanes without too much trouble. Once the bus lanes finish, then things get more interesting...

I'm not sure an Airzounds would be good for this -the problem is that it's an all or nothing kind of thing and you can't regulate the loudness very well. I suppose you could chirp or blip a bit, but I'd think a bell would be the best option.

And of course, you've got to know when to hit the Airzounds anyway -sounds like this didn't happen in this situation and there was no warning or anticipation.

Interestingly enough, I had to say a loud "Hi!" to a girl on my commute on a multiuse path yesterday -head down on the phone, oblivious to everything. I've only got an Airzounds on at the moment, so I didn't want to obnoxiousy sound like a Mac truck -just saying hi loudly did the trick.

This incident is what Airzounds were made for.

Thing is, filtering is overtaking, and the onus is to overtake only when we can see it is safe. In situations with limited vision and pedestrians around, that will often mean little more than walking-pace.

Airzounds can have a use with peds. I can use some pretty deserted country lanes. There have been times when I've spotted someone, dog walkers etc 100+ yards infront, walking away from me.
I've been known to give a very short 'blip' in these circumstances. Purely to give them early warning of my presence.
If there's zero response, it's usually a good indicator that they're in Ipod land.....

Dont get a zound...please.

zounds are like hammers, once you have one everything starts to look like a nail (I pinched that quote from someone on here and its very true..may have been BM).

She is at fault but you both seemed to deal with it well.

Main point is, d'you get her number. Wonderful Lady, in full leathers... sounds like a dream date to me.
