First job 1966.

Like rockymountain I had a paper round in the mid 1960's, up at half five to deliver papers before I went to school, made the princely sum of 15 shillings a week, my first full time job was in a fruit & veg shop, 1967, I served customers, topped up displays, took deliveries and best of all I rode the tradesman bike delivering and collecting stuff, all for £5 a week.

I worked at a local pet food makers while still at school in the mid 1970's. I did Saturday mornings and then a full week leading up to Christmas 1976,where i received £22.50 for a fifty hour week! Then they paid me with a £20 note which no one would change. After leaving school i worked for a local brewers as an apprentice painter and decorator which i hated! I spent hours washing down nicotine covered paintwork,walls and windows in pubs, my white overalls were brownish yellow at the end of the week! The plus side was the 2 free pints we were allowed every day!

Marley Tiles in Eastleigh 1967 – chief store man (well I was on my own)

My first (Saturday) job was shelf-stacker for Peter Dominic off licence when I was 16.

Sadly their HO introduced a rule where only over 18s could work there, and so after about 6 months I had to go. The manager was a top bloke, and gave me a tin of beer after each Saturday and 3 weeks wages and a Watneys Party 7 when he had to let me go. Happy days!
