After a couple of weeks off with a mystery virus that I just couldn't shake, I've had a decent week and was ready for a 60ish km Sunday route. I took it steady because of concerns about my fitness and at the end of it, felt I'd taken it so steady, I had a bit more left in me than I expected. So tackled a regular 30km route after a bit of a rest, with a small detour to make sure I hit the 100. Got a bit dodgy around 90km when I hit a headwind that just flattened me, but overall felt that I'd paced myself quite well for the distance. So I'm chuffed! And hungry :-)

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Many congratulations on your first metric century

Well done. Always give a nice sense of achievement  I've always worked in miles & therefore cant remember my first metric ton, as it just didnt register  it was one of 2 rides around 2008/9, a 60+ mile audax, or a BHF charity ride, that was 40+ miles, but I cycled there & back too. I can remember my first Imperial ton & if thats your next target, I'd recommend doing it with others, as without support I think I'd have cried off at about 90 miles

I'd definitely need to increase distance slowly, or get some moral support, before going for the hundred-miler. The thought of doing what I did yesterday and doing the 60km route again on top of that is too much to comprehend right now.

I have got my eye on a more challenging 100km route first that's much more hilly. I want that to be my next distance milestone :-)

After doing a metric century doing the imperial century is mostly in the mind. I was worried about my first imperial 100 but turned out fine, made sure I had plenty of fluids and food. The main problem I've had on imperial 100's is getting bored, do not have that problem on metric 100's at all.
I also try to plan a route that results in a tailwind on the way home.

Some helpful observations for when the time comes, thanks
