Had my first accident this morning.
Coming down a hill and the road narrows to go over a bridge. Coming up the hill was a lorry which decided it wanted both lanes which meant all of the traffic in front of me had to stop.
Obviously as I was going down hill I was going fairly fast and I tried to slow down as much as I could but it was never going to happen as my back wheel had already locked up, so took evasive action to the path to avoid hitting the cars.
I managed to get on the path however the rear locked up again and, given that it's autumn, there was plenty of leaves on there causing the rear to slide out to the left, hitting a pole thus knocking the back wheel all the way over the the right.
This made me lose control and sent me straight into a mesh fence but it had a supporting metal pole which I hit on my forearm.
Fortunately I didn't go through the fence as on the other side, down a steep bank is a train track!
No broken bones, but plenty of cuts and bruises. I've not had a good chance to look at the damage to my bike, but front wheel is buckled and there was a rattle coming from it somewhere but will have a look at it over the weekend.
A very nice man in a Range Rover stopped to check I was OK, so thanks in the unlikely event you are reading this.
