Taking the biscuit
Keep the bike and get well rested.
Here's to a full recovery and using the condor as part of any physio.

I was out of service for a month when I ripped my knee open with an angle grinder a few years back.
The NHS offered me no physio or follow up after they stitched me back together. When I paid for my own physio it transpired that cycling, which I had stopped, was one of the best things I could have been doing to aid full recovery.

Bad luck - keep the bike it will give you the motivation - get a turbo if the doc says that's OK !!!

First night at home, god I'm sore.

Sliver lining. Using the walkie talkie I'd bought for the skiing I was able to order my morning coffee from mrs iwf remotely.

Now, there's a trick the fun of which might wear off quite quickly for the Mrs... I suggest you get a little bell, as well.

Awful bad luck, and ouch! Still, I would have thought that some sort of cycling (even if very gentle and on a trainer) will be a good physio when you get to that stage. Recumbent would probably be even better...

Memory is a funny. I wouldn't push it too much, although it does feel odd to lose time (I only did it once, after a very boozy party - I was there, I was home, I have no recollection of the walk in between...)

Anyway, hope your recovery is a speedy as possible.

bad luck, hope you get well soon.

You may never remember fully what happened. It's been 19yrs since my last ambulance escapade and I still can't remeber very much until the doc started stitching without anaesthetic (no broken bones luckily).

I'm sort of lucky as I work in the NHS at a big teaching hospital. To my embarrassment I apparently kept saying both in the ambulance and A&E "take me to St George's" even though I was in Guys

What gets a little tricky is my care is under Guys, yet I'll soon be back working at St George's. That said the physios aren't generally so touchy about the patch and my own Occi Health will want to have me working again soon. So I should get the best of care.

I couldn't fault the NHS for the care given to me. Some of the other patients were a nightmare and i have a different viewpoint on care now. How the nursing staff put up with the crap metered out to them I just don't know.

Anyhow the post arrived this morning and included a leter from the Met, so I can start some detective wrok. not expecting much but it's a start.

Now to research Frac neck Femur cycling, skiing etc

Once again thanks for the support

Nasty. Coward of a pedestrian imo.

A guy did that to a cyclist on one of our bridges here last year, put the cyclist in an neck brace on an ambulance, pedestrian was slightly injured and local paper's website filled with comments as to "what was the cyclist doing!?"

..er cycling down a cycle lane.

Hope you heal up ok! Keep the bike and ask about physio - sometimes you need to nag.

Ouch, get well soon iwf. For what its worth I'd vote for keeping the bike too, hopefully it will serve as encouragement that will speed your recovery; at worst you'll have made x payments for the bike.

iwf.. if you are a member of CTC or British Cycling - get in contact with them - your membership pays for legal assistance to recover costs/compensation from other side if it was other side's fault. They can advise on your rights/responsibilities/police etc., etc.

Not a member of either CTC or BC, but had a very interesting discussion with friends last night about compensation. 2 lawyers and a barrister

Key to it will be finding out whether the Ped stopped and gave his/her name.

I learnt a couple of other things too. To get at the bone the surgeons had to stretch my leg muscles in all sorts of odd ways. They don't cut the muscle. That'll explain why my leg still hurts like hell and why I'm bruised all over the thigh. But should also mean a quick (6 weeks) recovery

The other thing I've learnt is that booze and crutches don't mix, though I did have fun getting people to move out of my way in the pub!

oh to add insult to injury, the first copy of my new Cycle Plus subscription arrived in the post!

 Sorry to hear about your incident! The best way to look at it is that from the moment you had the injury, you are on the road to recovery. Each day is a step closer to getting on that condor. Some days might 'feel' like a step back, but each day is a day closer.

Good luck with the investigation, and join the CTC!

Mags

Joining CTC was always on my list of things to do, as was fitting the camera I bought over a year ago.

If I'd had the camera then at least I'd have some idea of what actually happened.

Aye, shame you didn't have the camera on, but this accident, and the fact you have lost any memory of it, sounds like a rare event. Certainly bad luck. Let's hope you find out what happened, and if justified, you can get compensation.
