I have tried contacting ebay but their website just throws me into a maze of questions about payment and there is no direct customer service email address.

Follow the questions through. You've emailed the seller, do it also through the ebay process then keep following the maze. If you are getting in a muddle, best get your parents to go through it with an extra pair of eyes.

First thing tomorrow. Phone the DVLA.

Tell them you've just bought the bike, but the owner forgot to give you the V5 and you are having trouble getting it off him. Ask "Is there anyway a new 'ownership' could be set up ?" - Ask and they will send you the correct forms/web link - Explain you are concerned, and also ask that you need to SORN it as you aren't planning to use it yet/your parents went bonkers (be honest they will help you) and that you've got to get this sorted and an MOT before it gets sold. Just tell them you were hasty in the purchase. They will help you.

If you aren't confident on the phone, pop to a local post office that issues tax disks - they will also help !

As the payment was made outside of Ebay then that is a breach of Ebay Rules and Policy, hence I don't think they would be overly keen to help out!

Can you have cash on collection ? - or does payment have to be within paypal ? This isn't necessarily outside of ebay, the goods were won in the system, but paid for by bank transfer, which is acceptable considering the value. Down side is the automatic 'get the cash back' that paypal can offer.

No particularly fishy.

Last weekend I did 140 miles on my CB500 which is more than I did in the previous two years. I've added 2000 miles to the odometer since acquiring the bike eight years ago. It's nineteen years old and has about eight thousand genuine miles on the clock I know its provenance and have the MOT certificates to support the mileage.

I am its third owner.

The seller isn't a regular ebayer (on that ID) so get on the phone to them - get your folks to as well - that's what they are there for, and they will have dealt with stuff before.

^That mileage is nothing to a strong Honda engine though. A 125cc chinese copy by it's own nature and target rider age-group is a bike I'd expect a lot more miles on.

I admit, I never had a 125  I went from a 50cc to a 600(or 3)

I wouldn't bank on it. My favourite karting centre finally wore out their old Honda engines a couple of years ago and finding that the Chinese copies were half the price of genuine Honda ones, bought two for every kart with the intention that they'd last for years.

They blew the lot up in six months  and now run Subaru branded Fuji Robin engines, which have been bomb proof so far.

I will contact ebay on Friday. Busy tomorrow.

God how busy is a bloody student ... FFS. My nephew couldn't get out of bed today at 9am to help his disabled nanna, so his mum had to go on her own. ARGH. Then my wife had to follw on her day off work. Feckin teenagers. (PS I had a job at this age)

Don't get me started. It's a bloody 5 minute task !

We try. We really do. :banghead:
