if you look at Merlin's site Andy, they have lots of very decent wheel sets at bargainous prices, a pair of tough (but not the lightest) Shimano's for around £85 - £90 for example.

I use Merlin a lot for parts & accessories & as mentioned up thread they have fantastic customer service, I am a fan.

Upgrading over time need not cost the earth with Merlin, Wiggle & CRC at hand.
I'm new to Merlin and they seem pretty good. I've been using Wiggle and CRC for some time. I ended up ordering the boxed Felt F95 for £365 after reading some reviews and doing some research. It should be here by 2:30pm! ^_^

I saw that offer & it seems fantastic VFM, + Felt are a very well respected brand too.

Be sure to let us all know how you get along with it.

The wheels on the new merlin are mavic cxp 22`s , same as come on the boardmans under a grand .Good wheels that i used for a year on the boardman then another year + on my virtuoso .Very good wheels for the price of the bike and a lot better than you will get on carreras and tribans at this price point.

Hi bradx888,

Firstly I'll apologise because I don't own a road bike and I'm no expert by any means and so please feel free to ignore this and listen to all of the other advise from people who have much more experience and knowledge than I do. My main reason for posting is because although I do not know about road bikes I could remember having recently read articles about road bikes in a similar, albeit it a bit above with one of them, the price that you want to spend.

One bike has already been mentioned and it's the B'Twin Triban 500SE and although it's been mentioned I thought that I'd post a link to this article just in case it's of interest to you:-

Also I read a story today about the Merlin Cycles PR7 and I can see above that this bike has already been mentioned and so I'm not trying to step on anyones toes because both of these bikes have already been mentioned but again just having read a recent article about the bike I thought I'd post a link to it just in case it's of interest to you.

Good luck finding the right bike for you.

John
