As a young lad I got loads of punctures.........roadside repairs were just part & parcel of your cycling day.
Since then (I'm 68 now) I have not done any "serious" cycling..........just back and to work etc.
So yes........I have thought back and I cannot recall a p*****e for over 50 years.
Took up cycling again this year and today reached my 1000 miles mark for the year.
Out with my mate.......... he got a puncture.
We stared at each other for a few moments then got on with it.
WOW.............getting that 23mm road tyre off was a lot more difficult than the old 1 3/4" (40mm) tyres. It was a split so we decided to put a new tube in.
Getting the tyre back on was also more difficult...........but we bravely soldiered on .
All good experience.

I too made a roadside repair on Friday for the first time in 40 years for me. It's rather enlightening.

I've had punctures twice on sportiff rides; getting a puncture on a sportiff is probably similar to being shot; you can't quite believe it's happened to you.

On a regular ride a puncture is just a minor inconvenience; carry a spare inner tube and a couple of gas cylinders, check the tyre for whatever caused the puncture and keep searching until you find it then replace, gas, and you'll be on your way in five minutes or less.

It's not a race but most people are trying to do well so a puncture is unwelcome. My first was on the Cape Argus as I enterted a fairly rough "Cape Coloured" area; some young lads must have scattered drawing pins on the road because I heard a "tic-tic-tic" and saw something bright in my front tyre just coming up to that stretch and several of them were patrolling with huge bunches of inner tubes looped over their shoulders. My punctured tube certainly disappeared fairly smartish into the excited group that formed around me as I fixed the puncture.

I wish !!!!!
Took us 5 minutes to get over the shock
30 minutes all told.

Took me ages this morning doing my first ever on the roadside, I'm definitely better doing them in the peace and calm of home, did things in the wrong order etc.

A few weeks ago it took me 25 minutes to change my first inner tube at the roadside. It was dark and raining though
