Had my first experience of silly commuter racing this year at lunch time.
On my way back to work, joined a shared path and noticed a guy on a black Cannondale MTB, who was in front of me, suddenly speeded up and started looking back more than "normal".
Since were on a shared path I ignore it and just ride my normal "shared path" pace, knowing there is a short incline coming up very soon. Catch up very easily on the incline then sit behind, to one side not drafting, watching him go for it. Turned onto a little straight with slight incline but into the wind and happily just cruised past.
As they say, small things please small minds but it made my day knowing I am in alot better condition now than I was the same time last year.
