First Signs of Spring

First flowering daffodils spotted on my ride this morning

I planted some snowdrop bulbs years ago, after discussion with my wife we decided probably about 10 years ago, and for the first time we have growth, a single flower has appeared.

That's nature decade interval reminder to improve yer planting.

The mild weather has brought the crocuses out. They weren't there the other day, and now I've purple flowers dotted here and there around the house, more this year than recently. Sometimes I've been lucky if I've had just the one flower.

Sadly, the other colours all seem to have been eaten. And I planted SO many bulbs way back when.

Fairly sure I disturbed a frog in the pond this morning.

The first swallows have begun trickling past the Gibraltar Bird Observatory, in off the straights from Africa. A few house martinis too. Link.

We've got quite a few daffs flowering now but I see I've been beaten to it by several weeks. Story of my life

Wild primroses out in sheltered ditches I have seen on my rides.
Today also saw pink blossom and some white but can't tell you what the trees were, as we were in the car.

Early prunus, cherry types and the white is probably pussy willow.

My rosa rugosa bushes are starting to put out green shoots, and started to get a few blooms on the japanese quince. Daffs are beginning to flower here too.

This morning, in fact just after the sun had risen I heard 'cooing' Wood-pigeons for the first time this year!😉

I think the daffs started to grow early this year anyway, well actually last year really as I saw some had popped up before Christmas which seemed unusual. but theyre only just beginning to bloom out now which is about right given spring technically starts on Sunday.

I'm actually already feeling the effects of tree pollen.

But I take antihistamines to help with a chronic sinus issue, so it does mitigate the effects. And fortunately Cetirizine Hydrochloride works for me, so £1 for 30 tablets from Savers.
