First Signs of Spring

I planted some snowdrop bulbs years ago, after discussion with my wife we decided probably about 10 years ago, and for the first time we have growth, a single flower has appeared.

Best way to get Snowdrops started is as plants 'in the green' after they have flowered.

Was in the garden all day today and it actually felt warm in the sun.
Bees were about and the frogs have started mating in the pond; also plenty of birds singing.
While pottering about dug up a Trachycarpus palm seedling;

Then found about another six or so scattered around.

I've divided most of my patches post flowering and transplanted them elsewhere in the garden. I think I started with just a couple of packets of bulbs. They also seem to have self-seeded as well - right now, they're everywhere. Which is a good thing. :smile:

I'm actually already feeling the effects of tree pollen.

But I take antihistamines to help with a chronic sinus issue, so it does mitigate the effects. And fortunately Cetirizine Hydrochloride works for me, so £1 for 30 tablets from Savers.

yes I feel Ive gone from having constant winter cold streaming nose, to hayfever constant streaming nose,with the added bonus of itchy eyes today :sad:

I considered it yesterday but the shady bits were too wet still

It was damper than I would usually do it, but the forecast was for more rain before and over next weekend, so I couldn't see it being any drier in a reasonable time. Fortunately I work part time now (Wed- Fri), so could do it on a Tuesday afternoon.

The lounge windows, that have been as good as permanently closed over winter, have been opened this morning. Not convinced they will be stay permanently open yet until end of autumn, but it's a start!

Second day of outdoor riding looms, today might call for the summer kit, an upgrade from 3/4 bibs yesterday. :eek:

My snowdrops are now looking rather tired after the few days of very mild weather, as are the crocuses, but now the daffs are popping up here, there and everywhere. And my cherry plums are beginning to bloom. The one with red fruit (that grew from the rootstock of a grafted greengage) is currently in full bloom, and the two with yellow fruit are popping out a few blooms. And my mahonia is flowering too.

Out and about today, I've seen plenty of daffs and early flowering prunus, as well as some blossom on the odd blackthorn in the hedgerows. And a weeping willow on the Ely Road was already covered in a haze of green. Yowsers, that's early!
