I had my first SMIDSY of the year yesterday - and it was the scariest one i've had so far...

on the way into work, just mooching down a road past a garage in the town centre - just about 20mph i would think.

Chappy in a dark blue transit wanting to turn right across the lane in front of me. he stops in the road, I'm assuming he has spotted me and is waiting for me to pass as there was not really any other traffic to speak of - apparently he's not seen me!
After a couple of seconds he pulled right across infront of me i'm about 10m away when he starts pulling across me. I drop the anchor (fallen leaves making for fun two wheel skidding with the back end stepping out a foot or so) I manage to stop just 6" from his cab, approx eye level with his window...

I was quite suprised with my calm response to this situation, not a single profanity passed my lips just plain exhasperation - he was totally dumbfounded, appologetic and bleary eyed (hungover?).. looks like he wasn't quite awake enough.

Ah, what can you do? At least one of us was paying some attention.

Not commuting today, feeling a little guilty... i've got the day off to get some furniture delivered and then going to see Ricky Gervais as Ipswich Regent.

Glad you're ok dudi! Particularly impressed with the lack of profanities (although they would have been justified under the circumstances if you had IMHO).

Enjoy your new furniture and seeing Ricky Gervais. Have you seen him live before?

Cheers Hobbes.
Never seen him in the flesh before... Read a review in the local rag last night on this tour. I think this reviewer probably has some issues that may have affected his enjoyment - such as no of sense of humour.
I'm looking forward to it - I know some people don't like him, but I find him amusing when he's not being David Brent.

I don't know if it counts as a SMIDSY, but about two years back a fat woman in a Ford Fiesta did exactly the same thing to me ... only she deliberately pulled out while staring at me and shouting "get off the f**king road".

Had one tonight Chobham Road Stratford coming in opposite direction did his right turn in front of me.Just as the words "twat" left my mouth he had put his hand up to acknowledge me or say sorry or something.

Im sure that makes it alright then.

I don't think it was a SMIDSY though.

I have taken to using my lights of flashing mode in daylight, but even then there is no grantee that the driver will look...

Yeah I do flashing lights in daylight also if the weather deteriorates.

I don't think my lights are particulary bright but they do a job and I don't particulary need them during the day except if it becomes overcast.

I tend to base it on whether vehicles have their lights on.
