I had my first SMIDSY of the year yesterday - and it was the scariest one i've had so far...
on the way into work, just mooching down a road past a garage in the town centre - just about 20mph i would think.
Chappy in a dark blue transit wanting to turn right across the lane in front of me. he stops in the road, I'm assuming he has spotted me and is waiting for me to pass as there was not really any other traffic to speak of - apparently he's not seen me!
After a couple of seconds he pulled right across infront of me i'm about 10m away when he starts pulling across me. I drop the anchor (fallen leaves making for fun two wheel skidding with the back end stepping out a foot or so) I manage to stop just 6" from his cab, approx eye level with his window...
I was quite suprised with my calm response to this situation, not a single profanity passed my lips just plain exhasperation - he was totally dumbfounded, appologetic and bleary eyed (hungover?).. looks like he wasn't quite awake enough.
Ah, what can you do? At least one of us was paying some attention.
Not commuting today, feeling a little guilty... i've got the day off to get some furniture delivered and then going to see Ricky Gervais as Ipswich Regent.
