First snapped chain

I knew it would happen some day but never expected it to be on my good bike.

I was cycling through the new business park and reached a crossing. I trackstanded a little as I allowed a family to cross and when I set off again, the chain snapped! I suspect it was because I was in a high gear so was putting a lot of torque through the chain.
Fortunately the woman behind me allowed me to pick the chain up off the floor and I wheeled the bike to the side to inspect the damage. Both link plates at one link had just sheared right off. I didnt have any quick links with me or my chain tool so I had to just wheel the bike home (not too far).
I rang my dad and he was able to come and pick me up saving me from ruining my shoes.

I am going on a Reliability (irony?) ride tomorrow with the local club so hopefully I can fix the chain with a spare link that I have and all will be good. I will be certain to take my chain tool and spare links with me tomorrow though, just in case.

I think a repair link and chain tool are well worth carrying. Seen too many broken chains to risk a ruined day out. And my Dad doesnt drive ^_^.

Agree with GrasB and potsy. No matter the reason, if the chain has worn/corroded/stretched enough for 1 link to give up on you it would be a fair assumption that the rest are in a similar condition.
Entirely up to you but just for peace of mind I'd be changing the chain

A chain is dirt cheap anyway, you don't want to risk having it snap again and crashing and damaging a part of your body!
