I am looking at buying my first tablet, budget around £250 for a 10" screen model. I could spend more but I am not sure that I need the extra speed to be honest. I am not interested in an Ipad and like the idea of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 as I like my Galaxy S2 phone. It's main use will be web browsing in the house and possibly watching the odd film if I take it somewhere. One review I read stated that this device can stutter with 1080p playback. I am not bothered about watching 1080p on a device so small but I have quite a lot of 1080p films on my HTPC and could not be bothered having to re-encode them or whatever down to 720p. I could stretch to the Nexus 10 but the lack of no SD micro slot puts me off a little. I just want something with a good screen that is not shite to use. I am not bothered if it is not the fastest device at all. I just wondered if there are any other decent alternatives around the £250 mark as I haven't a clue. Are there any tab 2 users that can clarify the 1080p video playback of MP4 or MKV files please?

sorry, just re-read.
as far as the nexus tabs go don't let the lack of a slot bother you, get it on your wireless and stream, wife does this for films in full HD.
oh and you can get micro usb adaptors for sd cards or if you want a usb hard drive.

I've got a N10. Add a OTG cable and I can plug in my 64gb USB flash drive. You can play movies etc directly from it. I can even plug in my 3tb external HDD

Quite happy with a Tab 2 7 inch. Menus etc are very similar to my S3

Do either of you use them to play 1080p movies at all? I thought about a 7" tab but thought because I was mainly using it at home the bigger one would be better for viewing web pages, I just expected to have to use the zoom function a lot more with a smaller screen.
I've got a Nexus 7 for the things you describe and am glad I didn't go to 10".
Why is that mate? Do you think 7" is adequate enough for web browsing without lots of zooming, or do you also take it out and about with you also, as I would imagine this would make 10" a bit of a pain?

I find my phone a pain for much web browsing but then again the screen on the S2 is nowhere near 7" and I do not want a phone any bigger than the S2, hence wanting a tab I guess, as my my PC at home is hooked up to my TV which is great for movies but so much browsing.

I really need to go to PC World and try these things to get a good idea to be honest. I doubt I will buy from there though.

worth noting that the S4 is practically a tablet all on its own. it is if not as fast than faster then my wifes nexus 7.

I do not know if I can handle paying £500 for a phone as I do not use one enough for an expensive contact. I also think that they are too big for a phone, but that is just IMHO. I always prefer to get phones when they have been out for a couple of years and get a good phone at a bargain price. I have toyed with the idea a used S3, but I like my S2 for what I use a phone for.

I bought a 10 inch Flytouch 8 just after Christmas £124 with leather case and keyboard it has been great for the price

Thanks for that mate, I should maybe look at lesser known brands to save some cash. Archos appear to have a decent following and are cheaper and more powerful than the Samsungs.
